Alabaster residents are encouraged to “Clean Up and Clean Out” in April. On April 26, the city will offer a shredding and electronic recycling event with Protec Recycling (see lists of accepted and unaccepted items below), and the Alabaster Public Works Department will do two Junk Pick-Up Mondays on April 7th and April 2st. Sign-up for each pick-up date starts two weeks prior. Residents can sign up online at https://cityofalabaster.com/460/Household-Junk-and-Rubbish-Information or simply drop by City Hall at 1953 Municipal Way to register in person. Two additional Junk Pick-Up Monday dates are scheduled for October 6th and 20th. There is a Junk Day pick-up limit of 10 cubic yards. Contact Protec for electronics recycling and shredding details at protecrecycling.com or by email at [email protected].

Hundreds of volunteers help make this event a success—from Beautification Board members to Thompson High School football players to City Council Members. The main sponsor of Clean. Sweep is Keller Williams Metro realtors Ashlee Springer McLaughlin and Tami Boyd. “We were excited to have a local business get involved,” says City Councilor and Clean Sweep founder Stacy Rakestraw.
Also in April, Thompson Intermediate School will host the Alabama PALs (People Against a Littered State) presentation, where members of the organization will educate students about the effect of litter on the community, creeks, parks, roadways, and quality of life.
