Dear Friends,

City leadership is excited for what 2022 holds for the City of Alabaster. There are so many wonderful things to look forward to (like the new Alabaster Police Department building under construction) and great things to reflect on from last year.

As a proud Thompson High School alumni and a former Warrior athlete, I could not be more proud of the Thompson Warrior football team and their three-peat as AHSAA 7A state football champions—the first 7A team to accomplish this. The Warriors worked as a family and fought through adversity to take the state title for the third straight year. The Alabaster community is so proud of these athletes and the job that Coach Mark Freeman and coaches are doing. I can’t wait to see what the 2022 season will hold for the Warriors.

Another exciting addition in Alabaster is the hiring of Neal Wagner as the city’s first Public Information Officer. An Alabaster resident who covered Alabaster for the Shelby County Reporter, Neal is extremely knowledgeable about the city and experienced in all things media. He is tasked with making sure our residents are up to date on the events and projects happening in the city through our city’s official social media outlets. To keep up with everything going on, be sure to follow us on Instagram at @city_of_alabaster and on Facebook at Alabaster City Hall.

Finally, the long-awaited repair and widening project on Highway 119 has begun. We ask that everyone exercise patience throughout the construction, as the project will be a significant improvement for our residents.

Again, Happy New Year, and I look forward to serving you all this year.

Mayor Scott Brakefield
