Capturing Alabaster’s Memories – Call out for Family Photos!

The Albert L. Scott Library is composing a book about Alabaster. Candice Murdock, our reference librarian, is working with Arcadia Publishing to put together an Alabaster issue of their Images of America series. We’d love to hear your stories! Come let us scan your photos, and share your history for the book. Help up preserve the history of Alabaster. We’re looking for original photos—not paper clippings or photos of photos. We’d also love to see high resolution digital images as well.

Saturday, May 11 from 10-12pm and 2-4pm
Tuesday, May 14 from 10-12pm and 2-4pm

Get ready for a summer full of excitement at the Albert L. Scott Library!

We are getting geared up for our summer reading challenge starting June 3. This year’s theme is Adventure Begins at your Library; so, come along with our camp counselors (aka your local librarians) as we brave the wild for a fun filled summer.

We are going to have twice the fun this year! Our kickoff and finale events will be split by age category. There will be two kickoff events and three finale events this year. Each age group will have age appropriate grand prizes, which will no longer be tied to our finale. We will have all grand prizes drawn on July 31, a week after all finale events.

Jr. Campers (0-4) will read for a treasure box prizes and have programs all their own.

Campers (5-11) will have two ways to record their reading this year—by number of books or time read. To keep our older readers excited and encouraged throughout the summer, we’ve adjusted our point system to 10 points for picture books, 50 points for chapter books, or a point per minute read.

Trail Blazers (12-18) will read for leveled prizes and to compete for weekly digital gift cards to their choice of Domino’s Pizza, AMC Theatre, Dunkin’ Donuts, Amazon, or Starbucks. Older teens 16-18 can choose to participate in the Adult Challenge.

Adults will read for weekly prize drawings and an entry into our grand prize and mission prize drawings. The mission prize will be four tickets to American Village. The adult grand prize will be two tickets to Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume coupled with an annual membership to the Birmingham Museum of Art.
