Dear Friends,
It is my honor and great privilege to serve as your mayor for a second term. We have accomplished so much in the last five years, and there is still much to do! On Friday, August 22, we officially broke ground on the campus that will house both our new city recreational center and library. Work has really progressed, and we’re excited that the foundation of the library has already been poured. I am so grateful to the City Council, the city employees, and our construction partners for helping to bring this vision to reality.
And while we have several familiar faces remaining on the Council for this term, we are glad to welcome Jamia James representing Ward 6. There will be a runoff on September 23, 2025, for Ward 1 between Gerry Bivins and Mike Myers.
Speaking of Ward 1, I want to express my deepest gratitude to Sophie Martin for her years of dedicated service to Ward 1 and the citizens of Alabaster. We were both first elected to city council in 2008 and have had the privilege of serving together for 17 years. During that time, we witnessed and contributed to tremendous growth and positive change in our city. Sophie’s commitment, leadership, and steady presence have made a lasting impact, and it has been an honor to work alongside her all these years. I wish her all the best in the future.
We are also so pleased to have Chief Grant Humphries leading our outstanding police department. He has stepped in and not missed a beat since taking over as Chief of Police. I am proud to call Alabaster home and look forward to serving this great city for the next four years.
Mayor Scott Brakefield
