It’s hard to believe the holidays are right around the corner! Amid all the hustle and bustle, don’t forget to set aside time for yourself and your family to enjoy the wonderful events we’ve planned at the library.
Notable November Events
November 12 at 4:30 p.m.—Join special guest Jodie Campbell from HeARTful Expressions for a unique storytime where art and heart come together. Through hands-on activities, storytelling, and creative expression, kids will explore emotions, build confidence, and discover the joy of creating from the inside out. This program isn’t just about making art—it’s about making meaning.
November 13 at 5:30 p.m.—Adults and teens (16+) can kick off the holiday season by crafting a custom holiday doormat.
November 15 at 10:30 a.m.—Kids in grades 1–6 can experiment with balance and motion at our Gobble Wobble Science Saturday.
November 26 at 10:15 a.m.—Families are invited to a festive Thanksgiving Storytime.
And don’t miss our interactive Christmas tree at Alabaster’s Festival of Trees! Inspired by the beloved I Spy children’s series by Jean Marzollo and Walter Wick, our tree will be a playful medley of holiday cheer. Can you find the five hidden objects tucked among the decorations? We hope to spy you there!
Delightful December Programs
December is filled with holiday magic, including visits from Santa, creative workshops, and special performances the whole family will love.
December 9 at 6:15 p.m.—Holiday Crafty Kids will create button ornaments.
December 10 from 10–11:30 a.m.—Preschoolers can celebrate at our Holiday Party with Santa, featuring photos with Santa, goody bags, gingerbread house decorating, and a petting zoo from Tuscaloosa Farms.
December 11 from 6:15–7 p.m.—Families can enjoy another chance to meet Santa during An Evening with Santa. Light refreshments provided. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
December 16 at 6 p.m.—Family movie night! Snuggle up with a blanket and popcorn for a screening of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
December 19 at 4:15 p.m.—Teens can design their own take-home giant snow globe scene at Teen Time.
December 20 at 10:30 a.m.—Kids will create one-of-a-kind wrapping paper to make gift-giving extra special.
December 21 at 2 p.m.—Storyteller Dolores Hydock shares The Plan B Christmas, heartwarming tales of hope during Christmases that almost weren’t.

Holiday Closures
The library will be closed from November 27 through November 30 in observance of Thanksgiving, from December 24 through December 26 for Christmas, and on January 1 for New Year’s Day. The library will also close early at 5:50 p.m. on December 23 and at 1:50 p.m. on December 31. No items will be due, and no late fees will accrue during these closures. All exterior drop boxes will be locked; however, returns may be made using the drop located at the front entrance.
Belk Charity Day Sale with the Friends of the LibraryJoin the Friends of the Library on November 7-9 at the Belk Charity Sale! Purchase a $5 sale ticket and get $5 off your purchase plus 25% off select brands with all the proceeds from ticket sales going to the library. We’ll have a table set up for tickets before and during the sale. There will also be a few available for sale at the library’s circulation desk.
Make a difference this Giving Tuesday
On December 3, join millions around the world in celebrating the spirit of generosity on Giving Tuesday. This year, we invite you to support the Friends of the Albert L. Scott Library as we work toward our goal of raising $250,000 for enhancements to our new library.
