Trace Adkins and so much more
The 24th Annual Alabaster CityFest is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, on the lawn at Thompson High School, featuring headliner Trace Adkins. This free, all-day event starting at 9 a.m. includes music, a kids’ area, a car show, and numerous vendors selling everything from t-shirts to doughnuts.
Adam Moseley is president of the Alabaster Arts Council, which organizes Alabaster CityFest as well as other events throughout the year. The Council’s mission is to advance and enrich the quality of life in the Alabaster community through arts and art education. Alabaster Connection asked Moseley to answer a few questions about this year’s event.
AC: Just when we thought CityFest couldn’t get any bigger, we see that mega country star Trace Adkins is headlining this year.
Adam Moseley: We are taking a big step this year with Trace Adkins. He is the biggest single act we have been able to get, and I think it will be huge for CityFest.
AC: How long have you been involved with the Alabaster Arts Council, and what changes have you seen since you began?
AM: I have been involved since day one. I was on the City Council that started this event in 2003 and have been at it for 24 years! It gets bigger each year. That first year took a few months to plan, and now it is a yearlong process.
AC: Other than music, what do you enjoy most about the festival? I’ll bet you can get funnel cake?
AM: You can get a funnel cake! I enjoy the vendors each year and love seeing all the kids having fun in the KidFest area. But I would say my favorite part is getting to see all of our neighbors and friends in the community.
AC: Do you need volunteers?
AM: We always need volunteers—they are the unsung heroes of CityFest. While a lot of folks want to help with the artists, we have volunteers who barely get to see any part of the concert because they are all running around making sure everything is happening as planned.
AC: Looks like Central Bank and Coca-Cola are once again sponsors of CityFest among others. How long have they been involved?
AM: Central State Bank has been a title sponsor for almost 10 years, and we could not do this without them. They also provide a big volunteer presence to help us with setting up. Coca-Cola United has been with us for closer to 15 years, and they have always been so supportive to Alabaster and Shelby County.
AC: Parting thoughts?
AM: I want to thank the City of Alabaster, Mayor Brakefield, and the City Council as well as the dozens of sponsors that help put this on every year. It truly is a community effort. Looking at what CityFest is now and how it has grown is truly amazing.
